In the sixth century St Benedict wrote a rule for cenobites, that is for monks who live together in a cloister and do service under a rule and an Abbot [from Chapter 1 of the Rule].

Throughout the centuries many men and women have made the Rule their own and tht is how the Order of Benedictines was created.

The monks of Mamelis and the Abbot are generally known as Benedictines and belong more specifically to the Congregation of Solesmes Benedictines.

In due course you will be able to obtain here more information about the Rule, the man who wrote it and what has developed from this beginning. And naturally the history of Sint Benedictusberg and the community living there will not be forgotten.
